About us

One local team for the utilities, the repairs and the finish

Domestic Utilities Service works on the systems and surfaces that decide how comfortable and efficient a home actually is — heating, insulation, water, fabric and the decorating that follows.

What we do

We look after the parts of a property that quietly determine how much it costs to run and how pleasant it is to live in. That covers the heating and hot water system, the insulation in the walls and roof, the pipework and drainage, and the windows and doors where heat escapes. It also covers the work most people end up arranging separately — plastering, painting and cleaning — because a job that stops at the point the trade leaves is a job the customer still has to finish.

Our work is split roughly between planned improvements and reactive repairs. On the planned side it is heating upgrades, boiler replacements, internal wall insulation and EPC-driven improvements. On the reactive side it is boiler faults, leaks, blocked or failing systems, draughty openings and the repair work a survey or a tenancy turnaround turns up.

How we work

Every job starts with a conversation and, where it is warranted, a survey. After that you get a written quotation that sets out what will be done, what materials will be used, roughly how long it will take, and what assumptions we have made. If something changes once work starts — and on older properties it sometimes does — we tell you before we carry on rather than presenting it on the invoice.

How we think about the work

Four principles that decide how a job is done

Assess before advising

We survey the building and the existing system before recommending anything. The cheapest fix is frequently not the one that gets quoted first.

Fabric first

Insulation and draught-proofing before bigger heating spend, because a well-insulated home needs a smaller system and a smaller bill.

Everything in writing

Scope, materials, timescales and assumptions are set out on the quotation so you can hold us to it.

Preparation is the job

Sanding, priming, flushing and making good are not extras we skip when the schedule tightens. They are why the finish lasts.

Process

What happens after you get in touch

  1. 01

    Tell us what is wrong

A phone call or a message through the form. We ask enough questions to understand the job properly rather than pencilling in a guess.

  2. 02

    Survey and written quote

Where a survey is needed we attend, look at the actual building, and follow up with a written quotation setting out scope, materials, timescales and assumptions.

  3. 03

Agree the work and the date

You approve the quote, we agree access, parking and sequencing, and you get a date that does not move without a reason.

  4. 04

    Work done and handed back

The work is completed, the site is left clean and tidy, and you get the paperwork you need for warranty, letting or compliance.

Tell us what the property needs

Tell us what needs doing and we will arrange a survey and a written quotation. No working prices over the phone, no surprises on the invoice.
